On March 29, opera enthusiasts from Tangshan, Hebei, visited the ancient stage at the Luzhi Jiangnan Cultural Park and performed Tangshan opera, a traditional art form with distinct northern characteristics.
Since its opening last year, the Cultural Park’s ancient opera stage has become a venue for performances of traditional Jiangnan silk-and-bamboo music and local water-town operas. Previous productions have all showcased distinct Jiangnan water‑town characteristics, such as the “Da Lianxiang” dance, water‑town costume dances, and Luzhi Xuanjuan storytelling. This time, a group of Tangshan opera enthusiasts visiting Luzhi were able to perform Northern Chinese opera on the Jiangnan ancient stage—a long‑awaited wish come true. Today, their dream was realized, and after nearly two hours of performance, every artist was visibly thrilled. They noted that this occasion provided an excellent opportunity to learn from one another and foster cultural exchange between Northern and Southern Chinese opera traditions. Following their performance, the troupe enthusiastically explored the ancient town’s quaint bridges and flowing streams, its historic streets and waterways, and the scenic area’s many attractions. All agreed that this interactive event will help promote Luzhi’s tourism resources and raise the profile of Luzhi’s attractions among visitors from northern China.
