The inaugural annual conference of the Taihu Culture Forum is scheduled to take place in Suzhou, China, on May 18–19, 2011. The forum plans to convene every two years, with the theme of “Strengthening Dialogue and Cooperation Among Civilizations to Promote Global Harmony and Development.” Following China’s Boao Forum for Asia, it is the first nationwide social organization established—drawing on the model and experience of the Davos Forum—dedicated to advancing Chinese cultural development and fostering cultural exchanges between China and other countries. It also represents China’s first culturally branded initiative independently founded under the name of a forum as a civil society organization.
At that time, the annual conference will invite approximately 500 participants, including Chinese and foreign dignitaries, renowned scholars, cultural officials, and prominent cultural figures. Its mission and objectives are to take China as a starting point, dedicate itself to the historical inheritance and modernization of traditional Chinese culture, and foster exchanges and dialogue between Chinese culture and world cultures.
The Luzhi Scenic Area extends its warm congratulations and is enthusiastically responding to the upcoming inaugural annual conference. During the forum, the scenic area will launch a series of special promotions and present a rich array of folk‑cultural performances. Highlights include acts that vividly showcase the distinctive cultural heritage of the Jiangnan region, such as the national intangible cultural heritage—Luzhi Water‑Town Women’s Costume Performance—alongside representative examples of Luzhi folk culture, including the Lianxiang Dance and Jiangnan Sizhu music. These quintessentially water‑town performances will effectively convey to both domestic and international audiences the timelessness and splendor of China’s traditional Jiangnan culture, perfectly aligning with the theme of the first Taihu Cultural Forum: “Dialogue and Cooperation Among Civilizations.”
