On the morning of October 10, Li Lanqing, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, together with his wife, visited Luzhi, a thousand-year-old ancient town, to inspect its historic streets and cultural relics sites, including Baosheng Temple. They were accompanied by Xu Jinrong, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province; Chen Zhenyi, Deputy Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee; Yu Xingnan, Secretary of the Wuzhong District Party Committee; Jin Jie, District Mayor of Wuzhong District; and Lu Zhenhua, Secretary of the Luzhi Town Party Committee, among others.
Li Lanqing and his delegation set out from the Jiangnan Cultural Park, strolling along the old street to take in the quaint charm of the ancient town and gain a deeper understanding of Luzhi’s local customs and traditions. They then proceeded to the millennium-old Baosheng Temple. At the temple, Li Lanqing listened to a briefing on the origins, history, and cultural significance of the Arhat statues enshrined there, emphasizing the need to safeguard these precious historical relics so that China’s outstanding cultural heritage may be passed down to future generations. Afterwards, they visited the temple’s thousand-year-old ginkgo tree and the memorial hall dedicated to Mr. Ye Shengtao. During a brief respite, Li Lanqing praised Luzhi as a land blessed by auspicious feng shui, summing up its rich tradition of eminent figures and vibrant cultural atmosphere with the eight-character phrase: “an educational wetland, a cultural oxygen bar.”
