As one of the demonstration sites for Suzhou’s beautiful‑town development initiative, Luzhi Town has adhered to the development philosophy of “a second wave of entrepreneurship and transformative innovation,” rigorously implementing the city’s new requirements and high standards for this work, and efficiently advancing all construction and improvement projects. On September 27, Lu Zhenhua, Secretary of the Town Party Committee, convened a meeting to advance Luzhi Town’s beautiful‑town construction efforts. The meeting was chaired by Gu Hongjian, Town Mayor, and was attended by the heads of the various special‑rectification task forces and the principals of relevant member units.

Prior to the meeting, Secretary Lu and Mayor Gu of the town party committee led members of the Town’s Beautiful Town Construction Leading Group on a site visit to Fenghuang Town in Zhangjiagang. The delegation focused on inspecting the renovation of street‑side landscapes and façade upgrades in Fenghuang Ancient Town, as well as measures to regulate vehicle parking and enhance greenery. They also assessed roadscapes along the town’s suburban fringe, public street furnishings, landscape maintenance, and environmental sanitation.

At the subsequent meeting to advance the construction of beautiful towns, the six team leaders of the 12 special rectification groups reported in detail on the current progress of their respective efforts and outlined their positions regarding existing challenges, proposed adjustments, and plans for the next phase. Following this, Deputy Town Mayor Wang Zonglin presented an overview of the interim achievements in the town’s beautiful‑town initiative and put forward recommendations on the key priorities for the upcoming stage of work.

Town Mayor Gu Hongjian emphasized that the work of building beautiful towns must be underpinned by strengthened leadership, with tasks meticulously broken down and assigned. All relevant departments should enhance collaboration to carry out all initiatives in an orderly manner, while closely monitoring key milestones and ensuring that the outcomes highlight distinctive achievements.

After hearing work reports from each special rectification task force, Secretary Lu put forward five key requirements for the town’s efforts to build a beautiful urban environment: First, We hope that the heads of each special rectification task force and the member units will independently organize visits to other model sites for beautiful town development, study their practices, and, in light of our town’s unique characteristics, apply these lessons to our specific work. Second, Although our town’s current situation still differs from that of other model villages and towns, we must remain confident and undertake systematic improvement efforts, starting with key projects and priority areas. Third is To elevate our level of understanding, it must be recognized that at this stage, our town faces a broad scope of work, substantial workload, and a weak foundational base. Although we have earned the approval of higher-level leaders, we must nonetheless build on our strengths—such as our industrial structure—and strive to take the lead citywide. Fourth is Strengthen horizontal benchmarking by comparing with other model sites to achieve self-reflection and thereby enhance the quality of work. Fifth is In our town’s historic district, the service and tourism sectors are dominant; therefore, industrial development must adhere to high standards, with the comprehensive implementation of the “6+4” tourism‑enhancement plan. Meanwhile, Secretary Lu further emphasized the next phase of village‑improvement efforts, the renovation of Yucai Road, the upgrading of Dongshi Shangxiatang Street, and the demolition and relocation of dilapidated and hazardous buildings, stressing the need to adopt a coordinated management approach that integrates sectoral and regional oversight, ensures high quality and stringent standards, and fosters long‑term, sustainable governance.
