The Eighth Lecture of the Qingfeng Forum in Luzhi Town: “Intangible Cultural Heritage”

On October 31, the eighth session of the Luxi Town Qingfeng Forum was held at the town’s Cultural and Sports Center. Director Zhou Minsen delivered a lecture on the theme of intangible cultural heritage preservation, titled “Caring for Ethnic and Folk Traditions to Realize the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation,” to young college graduates from the villages (communities) and government departments.
The lecture provided the young audience with a detailed explanation of the unique significance of intangible cultural heritage, and, from the perspective of the evolution of production and lifestyle, highlighted the origins, historical development, and related knowledge of intangible cultural elements—particularly the traditional costumes of women from the water towns of Luzhi. During the session, Director Zhou Minsen vividly described locally distinctive folk customs such as the Luzhi water-town wedding, bringing to life the unique charm of Luzhi’s intangible cultural heritage. In addition, presentations on a rich array of local intangible cultural treasures—including Dalianxiang dance, Xuanjuan chanting, Luzhi mountain songs, bamboo‑weaving techniques, and the art of crafting balance scales—captivated the audience and earned repeated rounds of applause. At the conclusion, the lecture reviewed Luzhi Town’s concrete practices and current status in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage over the years, while urging young university students to actively engage in the preservation and transmission of their region’s intangible cultural traditions, thereby jointly upholding cultural heritage and promoting the national spirit.
Over the years, Luzhi Town has adhered to the guiding principle of “prioritizing protection, giving top priority to rescue efforts, ensuring rational utilization, and promoting inheritance and development,” intensifying its efforts to safeguard, pass on, and advance intangible cultural heritage. The town has unearthed numerous ICH items, formulated comprehensive protection plans, and achieved remarkable results. The women’s costumes of the water‑town of Luzhi were designated as one of the first batch of national-level ICH masterpieces, while the Lianxiang performance and the traditional technique of making Luzhi radishes were respectively included in Suzhou’s fifth and sixth batches of ICH protection projects.
