Deputy Director Tong Mingkang of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and his delegation visited Luzhi to assess the current status of historic town preservation.


On the afternoon of January 22, during a symposium on the joint World Heritage nomination of the ancient towns in the Jiangnan water region, Deputy Director Tong Mingkang of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage led representatives from national and provincial cultural heritage authorities of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, along with heads of the ten nominated ancient towns, on a field visit to Luzhi Town. They were accompanied by Zhou Xiaomin, Vice District Mayor of Wuzhong District; Wu Jingyu, Secretary of the Luzhi Town Party Committee; Wu Qiurong, a member of the Party Committee; and other local leaders.

The research team conducted an on-site visit to the core protection zone of the ancient town, with particular focus on cultural heritage sites such as Baosheng Temple, the Ye Shengtao Memorial Hall, Shen Residence, and Xiao Residence, as well as historic bridges and ancient quays. Director Tong noted that in recent years, Luzhi Town has undertaken extensive efforts in the preservation of its ancient town, especially at Baosheng Temple, a national-level cultural relic site renowned worldwide for its sculpted arhat murals, where conservation results have been highly commendable. He expressed hope that the town will continue to achieve further remarkable successes in its future efforts to safeguard this historic gem.
