Luzhi Town convened a meeting to advance the joint World Heritage nomination of the Jiangnan Water Towns.

The application of the ancient water towns of the Jiangnan region to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List has been included in the State Administration of Cultural Heritage’s national “13th Five-Year Plan” for World Heritage nominations. Nine ancient towns—Luzhi, Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Qiandeng, Jinxi, Shaxi, Lili, Zhenze, and Fenghuang—in Suzhou are participating in the nomination, with Suzhou designated as the lead city for this joint bid.
To effectively strengthen the organization and leadership of the joint World Heritage nomination for the ancient water towns of the Jiangnan region, Luzhi Town promptly established a Joint Nomination Leading Group. The group is chaired by Gu Hongjian, Deputy Secretary of the Luzhi Town Party Committee and Town Mayor, with Xu Hong, a member of the Town Party Committee, and Wang Zonglin, a member of the Town Party Committee and Deputy Mayor, serving as deputy chairs, and relevant functional units (departments) as members. On the afternoon of April 2, the town convened a meeting to advance the joint World Heritage nomination process for the Jiangnan water towns. The meeting was presided over by Xu Hong, a member of the Town Party Committee, and attended by all members of the Joint Nomination Leading Group.
At the meeting, Xu Hong, a member of the Town Party Committee, conveyed the key spirit of the March 26 Suzhou Jiangnan Water Towns World Cultural Heritage Nomination Work Promotion Meeting. Wang Zonglin, also a member of the Town Party Committee and Deputy Mayor, outlined specific work arrangements based on the contents of the “Checklist of Documentation for the Jiangnan Water Towns’ World Heritage Nomination.” Finally, Town Mayor Gu delivered a concluding address, setting forth four requirements: first, to fully recognize the importance of this nomination effort; second, to clearly define roles and assign responsibilities to individuals, establishing dedicated working groups, refining task divisions, and actively ensuring effective coordination between different levels; third, all units and departments must collaborate closely to advance the nomination process while securing adequate funding; and fourth, to intensify publicity efforts, foster a strong public‑opinion environment, and strive to achieve the nomination goal during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
