Along the streets, the climbing roses have also burst into bloom—stunning crimson, romantically blush‑white, and elegantly pure white—spreading across their winding vines in a staggered, radiant display.

On the emerald‑green water, a summer Monet garden has blossomed. One by one, pristine white water lilies rise, cradled by verdant lotus leaves; their delicate petals seem to dance with the foliage, while a subtle fragrance drifts through the air—evoking that line: “Emerald fronds and crimson sleeves amid the waters, green lotus and fragrant seeds mingling with the scent of clothes.”

Lush greenery, a refreshing “summer”

　　Strolling through Baosheng Temple, one’s gaze is met with lush greenery, a refreshing sight that soothes the eyes. Most striking of all is the towering thousand-year-old ginkgo tree, its vibrant emerald foliage sprawling freely across the carpeted lawn, creating a visually soothing, heart‑warming scene.

After admiring the ginkgo trees depicted by Mr. Ye Shengtao, we stepped through the cobbled path into the Baosheng Temple Antiquities Museum to behold the millennia‑old sculpted arhat murals. Nine arhat statues, each with a distinct pose and expression, are scattered against a backdrop of surging mountains and seas, rendered with such lifelike detail that they seem to form a three‑dimensional scroll painting of figures set amidst nature.

A breathtaking sunset, a romantic “summer”

　　At dusk, head to Luzhi to catch a breathtaking sunset. The setting sun paints the sky in golden hues, casting an orange‑red filter over the entire ancient town. The dazzling evening glow lights up the lanterns of homes by the water, scattering May’s gentle charm and romance. Among the “Eight Treasures of Jiangnan’s Waterlands,” the gorgon fruit—commonly known as “chicken‑head rice”—makes its debut in early summer: roundish leaves spread across the surface of the pond, their vibrant green a feast for the eyes.

Beneath the golden glow of the setting sun, I stroll with family and friends. The cool evening breeze brushes against my skin as I savor the intoxicating hues of dusk. Crossing stone bridges and winding through ancient streets, every weathered flagstone bears the quiet imprints of happiness.

The night is deep and dreamy, a gentle haze of summer.
