On March 22, the 2025 Suzhou Wuzhong (Beijing) Cultural and Tourism Promotion Week—and the “Fragrance” Encounter at Wangfujing series—held its Luzhi-themed event on Beijing’s Wangfujing Street.

At the Luzhi cultural and tourism promotion event, vivid narration and exquisite visuals offered a comprehensive showcase of Luzhi’s distinctive waterside scenery and rich cultural heritage, making attendees feel as though they had stepped into a poetic ancient town of the Jiangnan region.

Azure indigo hues blend and diffuse, unfolding a grand panorama of mountains and rivers. The video and promotional presentation, “Azure Indigo in Luzhi,” invite the audience to journey—alongside Mr. Fuli, Young Master Xu, and the myriad flower deities—into dreams, into paintings, and into the very soul of Jiangnan.

The millennium-old Baoxing Temple, a secluded haven steeped in Tang‑era charm and Song‑dynasty elegance. This documentary on Baoxing Temple offers an in-depth exploration of the temple’s thousand-year history, illuminating its enduring and profound cultural heritage.

The launch of Ye Shengtao’s educational and cultural work, “A Pilgrimage,” along with the promotion of the short-video production base project, has injected fresh vitality into Luzhi’s cultural and tourism sector, enriching and diversifying the event while allowing Luzhi’s charm to shine brilliantly in Beijing.

The Lianxiang dance, a lively blend of song and dance, is truly captivating. Dancers don colorful traditional costumes, wielding their Lianxiang instruments with graceful movements and a brisk tempo; each strike produces a crisp, melodious sound that, together with their nimble gestures, vividly evokes the charm of the Jiangnan region, earning round after round of applause from the audience. Meanwhile, Suzhou Pingtan, with its gentle, lilting Wu‑language vocal style and flowing, lyrical melodies, gently unfolds the delicate tenderness of the Jiangnan landscape.

The raffles and trivia games during the intermission greatly energized the audience, who eagerly joined in, filling the venue with laughter and cheerful chatter.

The exhibition booth area was bustling with visitors, brimming with lively energy. Adorable, whimsical Q‑style Duan Duan figurines, Duan Duan straw‑painting masterpieces that capture the essence of a thousand‑year‑old craft, and Ye Shengtao–inspired quote bookmarks—all part of the uniquely crafted, characterful “Duan Duan Youli” cultural‑creative series—alongside the time‑honored “sauce‑flavored” Luozhi radish, a tradition passed down for centuries, showcased the timeless charm of Chinese aesthetics through handcrafted artistry. These offerings drew countless tourists to stop, admire, and engage, savoring the distinctive allure of Luozhi. During the tasting sessions, visitors raved about the unique textures and rich flavors of Luozhi’s signature delicacies, enthusiastically purchasing them to take home.

When one mentions Luzhi, the name of Mr. Ye Shengtao inevitably comes to mind. He once taught in Luzhi, dedicating himself to educational reform and nurturing countless students. The tranquil waters and quaint, time‑honored streets of this place also inspired his work, giving rise to many enduring literary masterpieces. At the event, citizens holding valid teaching certificates can receive a free Ye Shengtao badge. This small emblem embodies the deep bond between the esteemed scholar and Luzhi, while also helping more people learn about that meaningful chapter in his life.

Luzhi is as old as Suzhou’s ancient city, boasting a rich history spanning more than 2,500 years. Here, intangible cultural heritage, the scent of books, the delicate charm of tea, and the spirit of scholars all shine in harmonious concert, while its distinctive layout—two streets flanking a river, crisscrossed by bridges—unfolds like a traditional ink-wash painting. With the Qingming holiday just around the corner, we invite you to visit Luzhi, to admire the unique allure of “China’s premier water-town,” to savor the timeless elegance of the “Museum of Ancient Chinese Bridges,” and to explore the enduring historical and cultural threads that have been cherished for millennia.
