On the morning of May 1, Wu Yi, the former Vice Premier of the State Council of China, widely known as the “Iron Lady,” paid a visit to Luzhi, an ancient town with a history of over a thousand years. She was accompanied by Li Xueyong, Deputy Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Jiangsu Province; Jiang Hongkun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee; Zhou Xiangqun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Head of the United Front Work Department of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee; Yu Xingnan, Secretary of the Wuzhong District Party Committee; Jin Jie, District Mayor of Wuzhong District; Lu Zhenhua, Secretary of the Luzhi Town Party Committee; and Zhou Xuebin, Town Mayor of Luzhi, among other leaders.
Wu Yi and her delegation visited a number of attractions distinctive to Luzhi, including the millennium-old Baosheng Temple, the Jiangnan Cultural Park, and the Water Town Women’s Costume Exhibition Hall. They also attended a special performance titled “Luzhi: A Tapestry of Wu Charm and Han Elegance” at the ancient opera stage. Along the way, Wu Yi engaged in warm conversations with local residents lining the streets, inquiring about their living conditions and sampling Luzhi’s traditional snacks. After listening to a brief report on Luzhi’s situation from Lu Zhenhua, Party Secretary of the Luzhi Town Party Committee, Wu Yi expressed full appreciation for the town’s development and its people‑benefiting initiatives, urging Luzhi to press ahead and ensure that the fruits of reform and development reach an even wider segment of the population.
