A training workshop organized by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau paid a visit to Luzhi for observation and training.

On the morning of October 21, the 2014 training workshop titled “Contemporary Transmission of Traditional Festivals—Happy Spring Festival,” organized by the UNESCO International Training Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region, paid a visit to Luzhi for observation and training. More than 40 guests from various countries gained firsthand insight into Luzhi’s rich local culture.
Around 10 a.m., accompanied by leaders from the Suzhou City and Wuzhong District Intangible Cultural Heritage Offices, relevant officials from the Asia-Pacific Center and all members of the training program arrived punctually in Luzhi. At the Jiangnan Cultural Park, they enthusiastically enjoyed a splendid performance presented by the Luzhi Water Town Culture and Arts Troupe. Eager for more, several international participants even took the opportunity to learn the distinctive Lianxiang dance from the troupe’s performers, creating an atmosphere of warm enthusiasm and lively interaction. Later that day, the delegation also explored the ancient town of Luzhi; its quintessential Jiangnan charm and unique folk traditions drew endless praise from both Chinese and foreign guests. The sculpted Arhat murals at Baosheng Temple, a nationally designated key cultural relic protection site, left a particularly lasting impression on everyone.
It is reported that the training program organized by the Asia-Pacific Center this time was held to support the Ministry of Culture’s 2015 “Happy Spring Festival” campaign, enhance international understanding and respect for traditional cultures, safeguard humanity’s cultural heritage, and play a positive role in promoting the diversity of world cultural heritage.
