The application of the ancient water towns of the Jiangnan region to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List has been included in the National Cultural Heritage Administration’s “13th Five-Year Plan” for World Heritage nominations. Nine ancient towns—Luzhi, Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Qiandeng, Jinxi, Shaxi, Lili, Zhenze, and Fenghuang—in Suzhou are participating in the nomination, and Suzhou has been designated as the lead city for this joint bid.
