Mr. Ye Shengtao once taught at the “No. 5 High School.” There, he began his educational career, which not only carried forward Luzhi’s fine tradition of respecting teachers and valuing education but also preserved the town’s enduring cultural spirit. During a visit to the Ye Shengtao Memorial Hall, we listened to the guided tour while learning about Mr. Ye’s life and achievements, deeply admiring the noble character and exemplary conduct of this great educator.

Drawing inspiration from his years of teaching in Luzhi, Mr. Ye wrote such celebrated works as “Ni Huanzhi” and “Three to Five Dou More,” some of which have even been included in primary and secondary school textbooks. Following the pages of these texts, one can journey through Luzhi, where every line reveals a vivid portrait of the Jiangnan region.

Step into Wansheng Rice Shop, where the walls of its stone-paved courtyard display both the original text and a comic-strip adaptation of “Three or Five Dou More.” Here, you can gain insight into the former splendor of the Jiangnan rice market and savor the time-honored agricultural heritage of Luzhi.

Join an innovative ICH class to closely appreciate, explore, and learn about Luzhi’s intangible cultural heritage, and witness the radiant wisdom of the water-town artisans.

　　Currently, Luzhi boasts 10 intangible cultural heritage items at or above the district level, including one at the national level, two at the provincial level, and five at the district level. Among these are the Luzhi Water‑Town Women’s Costume, a national intangible cultural heritage; the Luzhi Lianxiang and Luzhi Radish‑Making Techniques, both provincial intangible cultural heritage; and the Luzhi Straw‑Shoe Weaving, Luzhi Bamboo‑Strip Craftsmanship, Luzhi Water‑Town Marriage Customs, Fuli Duck and Fuli Duck Soup‑Making Techniques, and Luzhi Zhuang‑Family Candy‑Making Techniques, all recognized as district‑level intangible cultural heritage.

　　Visit the Luzhi Water Town Women’s Costume Museum, the Jiangnan Cultural Park, the Luzhi Sauce Factory, and other sites to learn about Luzhi’s intangible cultural heritage. You can also try your hand at creating DIY postcards featuring water‑town women’s attire and even take a class in playing the lianxiang, gaining a more direct sense of the charm of Luzhi’s intangible cultural heritage and helping to better safeguard this unique cultural “calling card.”
