In the face of recent icy and snowy weather disasters, the Suzhou Municipal Tourism Bureau has adopted a multi-pronged approach to respond proactively.
First, by combining “three inspections” — self-inspection, supervisory inspection, and random spot checks — we will implement the relevant requirements of the Municipal Emergency Management Office and further strengthen safety measures across all tourism enterprises in the city, particularly in response to adverse weather conditions such as ice and snow disasters. This month… On the 15th, the “Notice on Further Strengthening Preparedness and Response Measures for Recent Adverse Weather Conditions, Including Rain, Snow, and Severe Cold” was forwarded to the tourism administrative authorities of all cities and districts, calling on tourism administration departments at all levels throughout the city and all tourism enterprises to further enhance organizational leadership, prioritize monitoring and early warning, reinforce emergency on‑call arrangements, and fully implement all preventive and response measures to ensure smooth transportation and safeguard normal production and daily life. The notice requires tourism administration departments at all levels to conduct on-site inspections of frontline tourism enterprises, urging relevant city‑wide tourism businesses to put in place contingency plans for icy and snowy weather and to strengthen self‑inspections. Meanwhile, the Municipal Tourism Bureau has formulated a joint law‑enforcement plan for safety work, under which it will carry out spot checks on key tourism enterprises—such as tour bus and vessel operators, travel agencies, star‑rated hotels, and A‑level scenic areas—focusing on their preparations for freezing, slipping, and disaster‑related risks associated with icy and snowy conditions.
Second, the Municipal Tourism Bureau promptly established a dedicated emergency response team to strengthen leadership over safety efforts, including enhancing monitoring and early warning systems, with designated personnel assigned to oversee these measures. 24-hour on-duty service, proactively responding to and handling all types of emergencies.
Third, the Municipal Tourism Bureau has strengthened its safety‑related research efforts, focusing particularly on tourism enterprises such as transportation and shipping companies, travel agencies, and star‑rated hotels, to assess the impact of rainy, snowy, and freezing weather on Suzhou’s tourism sector. To date, the operating conditions of local tourism businesses remain stable, and they have proactively implemented routine measures to address adverse weather conditions caused by ice and snow.
Fourth, On January 20, the Municipal Tourism Bureau will also convene a citywide meeting with travel agencies and other tourism enterprises to further strengthen the “three implementations” of safety measures—ensuring that safety responsibilities are assigned to departments, positions, and individuals—while proactively addressing adverse weather conditions caused by ice and snow, thereby guaranteeing a healthy, safe, and orderly tourism market ahead of the holiday.
