The rice shop was laid out with a front‑store, back‑yard configuration: the front housed the trading counter, while the rear accommodated the rice‑processing workshop and grain storage facilities. granary Warehouse. In the local dialect, the river wharf of a rice‑trading firm is called “hetan tou,” meaning a dock for loading and unloading grain. The “Wansheng Rice Trading Firm,” now a tourist attraction, was renovated in 1998 with funds raised by the Luzhi People’s Government to develop the ancient town’s tourism industry. It stands on the eastern bank of the Nanshi River, just over a hundred meters from the original site of the “Wansheng Rice Trading Firm”; that location was once the Yin Family Ancestral Hall. After its transformation, the “Wansheng Rice Trading Firm” strives to recreate the atmosphere of a Jiangnan rice market during the Republic of China era. Beneath the eaves of its three‑bay façade hangs a gold‑lettered sign reading “Wansheng Rice Trading Firm,” while inside the shop a counter for buying and selling grain bears a plaque inscribed “A Gathering of Merchants.” Behind the store lies a spacious courtyard paved with stone slabs.
